TPEs continue to show healthy growth compared with most other polymeric materials, due to their unique combination of elastomeric properties with thermoplastic processibility. TPE 2005, Europe's premier international conference for the thermoplastic elastomer industry, highlights developments in materials, applications and processing.
Applications for TPEs are strongly featured at TPE 2005, examples being automotive airbag covers and glass run channels, sports applications and extruded products. There will also be presentations on the use of TPEs in recycling polymer products such as tyres and other "end of life" vehicle components. Processing developments focus on adhesion, cellular TPE, multi-component moulding and product design.
TPV developments include examples of the "super TPVs" with enhanced properties, such as acrylate, ethylene acrylate and silicone types, other TPVs such as natural rubber and EPDM based, the use of silicon technology to enhance properties, and research into manufacturing techniques. Block copolymer advances include TPUs with greater softness and polyether block amide developments.
