Address: Via del Cairo, 34
City: 21100 Varese (VA)
Country: Italy
G.S.I.C.A. is the "Italian Scientific Group for Food Packaging".
The team was founded by some researchers, working either in public or private structures. Since the beginning, its mission was to implement education plans in food packaging. The meetings organized by this group of scientists always achieve good success, proving a specific need of communication within the food packaging community. It aims to create a useful and positive fellowship among all the scientists working in food packaging; also, its main efforts are to spread a scientific culture and promote progress in this research area, representing italian research on the international scene. The same philosophy is shared by Artek, which focuses its attention on food packages through its editorial products and communication projects. From the alliance between GSICA and Artek springs the idea to found GSICA Association, in order to enlarge GSICA activity and manage all the resources at best.

• Some of our experts
Matteo Alessandro Del Nobile, who received the PhD Degree in Materail Science from the University of Naples “Federico II”, is now working at the University of Foggia as Associate Professor. The main areas of interest include mass diffusion through polymeric materials and packaging structure design. Most of his efforts were put forward to determine the relationships existing between physical and chemical structure of polymers and their mass transport properties. This topic has been approached both from a theoretical and from an experimental point of view. The knowledge gained studying mass transport phenomena through polymer has been applied to develop tools packaging structure the design. He has published over 100 papers on topics related to polymer science and food science.
Luciano PIERGIOVANNI was born in 1950, is married and has two children. He is Full Professor of "Food Packaging and Distribution" in the State University of Milan. He develops his activity of teacher and researcher in the Department of Food Science & Microbiology (diSTAM), within the Faculty of Agriculture since 1975. He has been visiting professor in the Universities of San Paolo (Brasil) in 1990 and 1995 and Santafè de Bogotà (Colombia) in 1986 and 1995.
